Where did the idea for Baby Steps come from?
When I was pregnant for the first time, my mom and sisters were all in Chicago, and I was one of the first among my friends to have a baby. I felt at a loss as to where to turn for guidance. It took a lot of time and research on my own to create organized lists for things such as “tasks for my second trimester” or “what to pack for the hospital”, or “what to pack in my diaper bag.”
Eventually, my college girlfriends got married and became pregnant and turned to me for advice. One even contacted me when she was having early contractions and asked for me to send her my “what to pack for the hospital” list as quickly as possible! I’ve helped numerous moms prepare for their baby’s arrival since.
Helping these moms made me realize that not everyone has mothers and sisters to help them, and even if they do, sometimes they wouldn’t necessarily want their help. To have assistance from a professional baby planner really could be a type of support that could be really valuable. I went after the certification, researched what services would be most valuable to expecting and new moms and launched “Baby Steps” in 2017
How could a “baby planner” uniquely help a preemie mom?
My signature service, called Nursery Rescue would be perfect for a preemie mom. Most likely, she wasn’t completely finished with all her baby preparations when her little bundle of joy decided to make an appearance into the world. She would much rather be in the hospital with her baby, than at the store getting the products she still needs or at home setting up the bassinet.
My Nursery Rescue service is a package that offers 30 hours of my personal support. I’ll go to her home to take inventory of the baby products she already has, make recommendations for the things I feel she still needs, personal shop for these remaining necessities, and return to her home to fully stock and organize every drawer and shelf of the nursery so that it’s completely ready for baby’s homecoming. All of this can be done while she is at the hospital.
Do you offer any virtual services /packages?
I LOVE to help expectant women virtually, as well as locally. Services that I can provide for women living outside of the Tulsa area include:
Identify and simplify the most important tasks that must be done before baby arrives, and lay it out in an easy-to-accomplish monthly or weekly plan.
Baby Gear Education:
I optimize my client’s time by saving them hours of research by presenting 3-4 great options for each baby gear item they need.
Green Gear Education:
Education on eco-friendly and organic baby products that are available on the market.
Custom Baby Registry Creation:
I help create a registry, or create it for them online or in-store.
Additionally, my in-person services include Personal Shopping/ Registry Completion which included doing all the remaining shopping, price matching and managing exchanges and returns as well. I also help with nursery stocking, organization, and function design of nurseries.
Who is the ideal candidate for a “baby planner?”
My services are perfect for an expectant woman/couple who:
- is pregnant for the first time
- is working full time
- has been placed on bed rest
- has a baby in the NICU
- is adopting a newborn
But really, I believe that ALL mamas-to-be (even if this is their first baby or FIFTH baby) deserve a knowledgeable, experienced, and UNBIASED guide who can hook arms with them, simplify the overwhelming number of tasks and choices ahead of them, and guide them through every step along the way.
The market is overflowing with new baby products almost weekly, and to make things more confusing, there are monthly product recalls to keep up with. It can be overwhelming to sort through. I saw this first hand as I prepared for my three children.
Today, many moms-to-be work full time, and often live far from the support of extended family. They have little time to devote to preparation, feel overwhelmed, don’t know where to turn for help, and they don’t know that a service like this exists!
Everyone seems to have a different opinion about what baby gear they need and don’t need, where they should create their registry, and all the “things” they need for their “dream nursery.” In an attempt to avoid these biased opinions, expectant parents feel that the only way to find answers is to research everything themselves, which can take hours. Weeding through all the conflicting reviews they find on the internet can take even longer. These exhausted parents deserve support and efficiency.
Today, there really is a need for baby planners–unbiased experts that know which gear is best for their unique lifestyle and budget, who will not only give great recommendations, but will also give in-home, hands-on, practical support.
