Preemie Mom Camp

Meet Mighty Miracles Foundation

Preemie Power

2 Mar

I was so happy to hear from a fellow preemie mom in Oklahoma, Amanda Dickinson, who has a non-profit called Mighty Miracles Foundation. Its mission is to empower and support NICU families educate these families about NICU life.

She has kindly offered one of her signature Deluxe Care Packages for one lucky reader!

Keep reading to learn more about her non-profit, The Mighty Miracles Foundation, and how to enter to win! <<THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED>>

A Mighty Beginning

Amanda was introduced and immersed into the NICU with the birth of her second son, Kaleb, born at 28 weeks weighing 2lb 2oz.

“Entering the NICU is like entering into a brand new world with its own language, equipment, procedures, and way of life,” Amanda said. “Couple that with the fact that with the premature birth, gone was the “typical” birth experience with congratulations, balloons, and flowers from family and friends.”

Family and friends didn’t know what to say or do for her family. This observation and her experience as a NICU mom inspired her to begin Mighty Miracles and to find ways to do something to celebrate each life, no matter how short or small.

The organization does this by providing booklets and care packages to NICU families with the goal of educating families about NICU life and offering encouragement and hope.

Here’s what’s included:

  • Welcome to the World of the NICU: A parent’s guide to parenting a Mighty Miracle

  • My NICU Home posters

Colorful prints to decorate baby’s isolette or room as the family works to personalize the space. These Mighty Miracles designs are laminated in heavy lamination to easily clean and sterilize.

  • My NICU Family Tree

NICU Family Tree print is a nice print printed on cardstock for your NICU team to sign so you and your Mighty Miracle will remember this various special part of your family.

  • Miracle Apparel

A Meet Our Miracle or Even Miracles Take A Little Time onesie or sleeper will be included in each care package.

  • Surrounded By Love visitors print

This is another cardstock print to act as a keepsake. Mighty Miracles designed this guest print for families to have something for family and friends to sign when they visit.

  • NICU Graduation Certificate Keepsake

A NICU graduation certificate was designed by Mighty Miracles to give the family a keepsake when the discharge papers finally come. The certificate is designed with space for signatures from the baby’s NICU family.

  • A Children’s Book

A children’s book will be included for the family to read to the baby so that the child can be comforted as they listen to Mom and Dad’s voices.

  • Bonding Heart & Poem

First developed from The Preemie Project in Iowa. The fabric heart is worn against the mother’s skin so that the fabric might absorb the scent of the mother. The heart is placed with the baby in the isolette or crib so the mother is always with her child. The baby can be comforted by their mother’s smell and mother’s love, Hearts are accompanied by a poem.

  • I Love a Mighty Miracle bracelet

Two rubber bracelets are included in each care package.

  • Preemie Octopus

Some people say the tight curls of a crocheted tentacle make a good umbilical cord substitute for the tiny hands of a premature baby.

We would have loved to have a Preemie Octopus during our NICU stay. Our son a 31 weeker/3 lb miracle was constantly grabbing on to his feeding tube and pulling it out. I didn’t know we could have given him something comforting as an alternative. Now at 2 1/2 he still loves to fall alsleep clutching something. Now are dear friends are in the NICU with their 22.5 weeker ( 7 weeks old today!). I would love to give them a Mighty Miracle gift collection. They have experienced 2 late term miscarriages and one loss after a week in the NICU. We are so thankful for the NICU and all blessings the people helping to create awareness and support for the families.

I would have loved to have the guidebook! Being a first time mama to twin micropreemies was such a whirlwind and having something to reference would have been helpful.
